Location and Hours

This fun, informative and practical visit to Café Ceramic takes between 45 to one and a half hours depending on the age of the children, the number of persons in the group, and the project you choose to do. We tailor the visit to suit your requirements, and will decide on a theme of your choosing in advance. Students can paint Ceramic Bisques or Line Art Tiles, create Mosaic pieces or design their own jewelry.

  • Bisque Painting

Students will paint their own piece of bisque pottery from your pre-chosen selection. We provide instruction, and have lots of simple design tools that you can use. Our paints are water based and will not stain cloths.

We will also include explanations and demonstrations of

v     Pouring Mold

v     Working with clay at different stages: slip, green ware, bisque

v     Decorating techniques

v     Glazing and firing pottery and studio tour

We glaze and fire your painted pottery; finished items are ready for collection in one week.

  •   Line Art Tiles

These are classic designs from some of the world’s greatest artists ready to be painted by the students. Beginning a project with a perfectly drawn replica allows the student to focus on the art theory like Expressionism or Pointillism or simply to experiment with colors. We provide instructions and demonstrations. Images include works from Picasso, Monet and Van Gogh, to name a few. We start with a slide projection displaying the artist’s artwork and read stories about his life and impact on Art History.

  • Mosaic Projects

Students will create their Mosaic plaques from your pre-chosen items and have access to a variety of pre-cut mosaic tiles. We provide instructions and demonstrations for

v     Designing Plaques or garden stepping stones

v     Placing Tesserae

v     Grouting

v     Sealing

  • Jewelry Creation

Students will create their own necklaces, earrings, key holders, and bracelets using various techniques. We provide instructions and demonstrations for every step.
